Mesothelioma Settlement

A mesothelioma settlement, also known as “settling out of court”, occurs when the defendant offers the plaintiff a sum of money in return for dropping the mesothelioma lawsuit.  In this case there are usually additional stipulations that the plaintiff will absolve the defendant of any wrongdoing.

If the client accepts the mesothelioma settlement, they basically take the money and the case is closed.  If they choose not to accep the settlement, the trial goes on and both parties must abide by the decision of the judge or the jury.

If the plaintiff feels like their case is strong and the defendant's settlement offer is too low, they may wait and negotiate for a higher offer. Or they may pursue the trial to the end in hopes that the judge or jury would offer an even higher amount.

If the defendant beleives that the plaintiff's case is weak, they may offer a relatively low settlement or none at all.  Mesothelioma settlements to individuals often run from the low millions to tens of millions of dollars.
